In for a Penny v0.80 Released
In for a Penny has shipped v0.80, and it’s not a routine content drop — Moist Sponge Productions has rebuilt the entire game on a new engine.
The developer explained the move directly in the patch notes: “We have taken in your feedback. We have switched over to Ren’Py. We have rebuilt the game completely within Ren’Py… we are new to it and are learning as we go. So please let us know if something is not right.”
Switching engines mid-development is a rare and risky move for any long-running project, and it signals the team is prioritizing long-term stability and player feedback over sticking with a familiar toolset. It’s also a bet that will make future updates easier to build and mod, since Ren’Py is the de facto standard for the genre.
The rebuild isn’t without rough edges yet. The developer flagged that the game “still has file bloat,” with a promise that the next update will address it by converting PNG assets to WebP — a change that should meaningfully shrink download sizes without sacrificing image quality.
In for a Penny follows a male protagonist through a harem-driven 3DCG story with sci-fi elements, alongside incest, pregnancy, and voyeurism themes across its narrative branches. With the engine migration now behind it, the v0.80 release effectively resets the game’s technical foundation while carrying its existing story and character content forward.

v0.80 is available now for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
